DESCRIPTION:Frontier School of Mission \nIntensive Training – Jesus and the gospels \nPort Macquarie\, NSW \n25-29 September 2023 \nAn understanding of who Jesus of Nazareth is and how he is portrayed in the Gospels is fundamental to the church’s task of mission today. In this unit\, taught by Frontier School of Mission dean\, Dr Mark Worthing\, participants will learn basic skills of reading the four Gospels. They will look at the different portrayals of Jesus in the synoptic Gospels and in the Gospel of John. There will be a focus on how Jesus was understood in the Gospels and how various groups view Jesus today.

SUMMARY:Frontier Intensive Training - Introduction to Preaching
DESCRIPTION:Frontier School of Mission \nIntensive Training – INTRODUCTION TO PREACHING \nPort Macquarie\, NSW \n21-25 August 2023 \nDr Tim Stringer will be leading this unit\, designed especially for current lay preachers and those preparing for this role. The intensive will also be of interest to experienced preachers who are interested in honing their skills of public proclamation within the current preaching context. Special attention will be given to missional preaching\, the use of multi-media\, and delivering sermons via various on-line platforms. Participants will learn not just how to exegete a biblical text\, but also how to exegete (or read) a congregation. There will be opportunity to deliver a short sermon in class and receive feedback\, as well as to deliver a sermon in an appropriate setting after the intensive and receive further feedback.

DESCRIPTION:Frontier School of Mission \nIntensive Training – Theology of Mission \nPort Macquarie\, NSW \n24-28 July 2023 \nWhat on earth is God doing for heaven’s sake and how do we join God in this work? This intensive will look at how God has worked in the past\, and what God is doing in other places\, to help us discern how God is working with us today. Our context has changed radically in the past decade. To bring the good news of Jesus to the world today we need to move beyond programs and techniques and get back to the basics of being Christians in our communities. This intensive will be led by Pastor Steen Olsen (LCANZ emeritus pastor and bishop) and Pastor Mat von Stanke (Life Way\, Newcastle NSW).

DESCRIPTION:Melbourne School of Theology is excited to offer two units as intensives at its MST-Frontier Port Macquarie campus in the first semester of 2023 in collaboration with MST-Frontier School of Mission. The material is structured around the Church Year\, giving it a practical focus for worship. \nWe begin with Advent and the preparation for the coming of Jesus\, look at the incarnation of God at Christmas\, reflect on Jesus’ death and resurrection as commemorated on Good Friday and Easter\, the Holy Spirit as celebrated at Pentecost\, then Trinity Sunday\, the doctrine of the Church for the Pentecost season\, and finish with a celebration of the coming of Christ the King\, which we celebrate on the last Sunday of the Church Year. \nBooks to consider reading in preparation for this unit: \n\nMark Worthing.
