DESCRIPTION:Melbourne School of Theology is excited to offer two units as intensives at its MST-Frontier Port Macquarie campus in the first semester of 2023 in collaboration with MST-Frontier School of Mission. The units can be applied toward either an accredited Certificate/Graduate Certificate (4 units) or a Diploma/Graduate Diploma (8 units) or can be taken as an audit for those who would simply like to sit in on the lectures and do the readings. \nThis unit\, taught by LCA Executive Officer for Local Mission Dr Tania Nelson\, and LCA pastor for New and Renewing Churches\, Nathan Hedt\, begins with Jesus’ practice of discipleship as found in the Gospels and examines practical ways in which discipleship can occur in various missional settings within the Australian context. \nThe student will not only be challenged to re-discover Jesus’ radical approach to discipleship\, but to apply this to their own lives and to mission and ministry in contemporary Australia. \nBooks to consider reading in preparation for this unit: \n\nJohn Stott. The material is structured around the Church Year\, giving it a practical focus for worship. \nWe begin with Advent and the preparation for the coming of Jesus\, look at the incarnation of God at Christmas\, reflect on Jesus’ death and resurrection as commemorated on Good Friday and Easter\, the Holy Spirit as celebrated at Pentecost\, then Trinity Sunday\, the doctrine of the Church for the Pentecost season\, and finish with a celebration of the coming of Christ the King\, which we celebrate on the last Sunday of the Church Year. \nBooks to consider reading in preparation for this unit: \n\nMark Worthing. DESCRIPTION:This webinar will provide an overview of the LCA Child Safety Standards for Congregations with an emphasis on the new child safety responsibilities for LCA congregations. \nIt will also provide guidelines and helpful tips for completing the new Self-Assessment Tool and Child Safety Plan\, as well as information regarding the implementation of the Child Safety Plan by local councils. \nThe webinar will run for approximately 90 minutes from 1.30pm AEDT.  \nAll church council members\, particularly chairpersons and secretaries\, pastors\, Safe Church Coordinators\, and other key people involved in children’s ministry are strongly encouraged to participate. \nEach session will include question-and-answer opportunities. \nThe webinar will be conducted jointly by the LCA Child Protection Project Officer Mary-Ann Carver and members of the Professional Standards Department.
